Painted

August 29, 2013

We painted about four weeks ago so this old progress but I thought I would share since I have tracked all of our house building steps thus far.
Below is my kitchen and yes that is green! I LOVE the color. Which now most of it is covered up with cabinets but I love the pop of color it gives!
We used Behr paint for our entire house.
Colors:
Paisley’s Room: My Fair Lady (pink)
Guest Room: Pewter Mug (dark gray)
Paisley’s Bathroom: Silver Drop (light gray)
Laundry Room: Silver Drop (light gray)
Hall and Living Room: Raffia Cream (cream color)
Kitchen: Corn Husk Green
Master Bedroom: Cozy Cottage (light cream color)
Master Bath: Pale Lichen (pale bamboo green)
I love that it went on evenly and only needed two coats for a more finished look.
Cannot wait to show more soon!

The World Is Watching You

August 28, 2013

It’s Your Life by Francesca Battistelli on Grooveshark
By now I am sure that you have heard and/or seen the Miley Cyrus fiasco from the VMAs. The story is buzzing all over the news and Internet with numerous posts and articles about the show and her as a person. We, however do not watch MTV much less the VMAs, but after all of the hype from her performance, I decided to watch a 10 second clip and that was all I needed to turn my phone off.
It breaks my heart that our society has gone this far. That girls and women in general (not just Miley) feel like they have to display and carry themselves in such a manner. That they long and thirst for so much attention, they throw themselves out like that. It sickens me that my daughter will have to grow up in a country where it is normal to make sexual gestures half way clothed in front of a crowd of people while the population considers it “awesome” and “crazy.”
It breaks my heart that girls who have no respect for themselves will be the ones that are left for young girls to look up to.
Unfortuneately, we have been overlooking for too long and it has come to this. This behavior has been going on for a very long time. Our TVs, music, Internet, and social media are filled with secular content that make us believe that it is “ok” to act and think that way. Everyone jumped the gun to point out Miley but I feel like her show has been a great example of how far our population has plummeted. Our world has made room and allowed for all of this behavior and we see things like this everyday.

Where has dignity, self respect, modesty, and self worth gone? Is class even in the dictionary?
How can we as women request respecet from others when we refuse to respect ourselves and set standards. A lot of girls wait for their prince but do not act as princesses. I feel like a guarded heart on fire for Christ would be so much for attractive than someone who exposes themselves distastefully for everyone to see.
I hope this has opened your eyes like it has mine to the things we allow our kids to watch and listen to. When they see women behave that way and get the attention and responses that they are looking for, they will strive to do the same. This has opened my heart to be an even more “praying parent” for my daughter, our future family, and for our world.
I saw this quote on facebook and it really put it all into perspective for me:
“If Godly parents don’t raise their children, then the world will.”
We are an example. Someone is this world is looking or has looked up to you. Especially your kids. I don’t know about you but it puts a huge weight on my heart and gives me a want and sense of responsibility to be my best self every single day. In the song on this post, Francesca sings “everyday the choices you make say what you are and who.”
We are daughters of the King. I want to reflect that to my daughter so she can be a mirror to others as well.

Proverbs 31: 29-30
29 Many daughters have done well,
But you excel them all.”
30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,
But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.

Goodbyes Are New Beginnings

August 23, 2013

This past weekend we had a “going away” party for my cousin, Ashton. We are extremely proud of all the things she has accomplished and the journey set before her. Tuesday she left for Nashville to start a new chapter of life by going to college and playing basketball for Welch. We said our goodbyes last night and I already miss her tons! She’s more of a sister and best friend to me and I am already missing our girls nights and One Tree Hill marathons.
Even though we all are counting down the days until she comes home for Christmas, I know she is going to have a ball. (no pun intended)
Here are some snaps from her party!
